Banana flour waffles are easy, delicious, and grain, gluten, nut and dairy free. Looking for a fruit and vegetable filled breakfast? These are a hit, with young and old alike!
Well, I did it. I wrecked my metabolism. Wrecked it real good in fact. I have had stomach pains and killer heartburn since our trip to Cuba. Maybe even before. Actually… It is possible my metabolism has been shitty for even longer! I had some seriously disordered eating in my teens and 20's. Crazy diets, cleanses, even a little dabbling in restriction and binging/purging. I tried it all. Low fat, no fat, no carb, low carb, carb cycling, replacement shakes, calorie counting, and so much more. Eating or not eating is an emotional thing for me. I live in a state of perpetual stress.
I am secretly high strung.
All this does terrible things to my metabolism. I am stressed, so I forget to eat, and when I do eat it's the wrong stuff because I crave sugar and caffeine. I eat too fast or the wrong things and end up with an upset stomach. It is a vicious cycle.
I went to see my GP who prescribed antacids. That might help my heartburn, but I wanted to get to the root of the problem, not just mask symptoms, so I went to see my naturopath. She told me all the things I already knew. Cut out dairy, bread, and caffeine. Eat lean protein and mostly fruits and veggies. And schedule those snacks and regular meals. I figured since I paid for her advice I would follow it! For the last 3 weeks I have been eating at 8 am (breakfast and a turmeric-based smoothie), 11 am (fruit or veggie snack) 2 pm (lunch), 4:30 pm ( A snack, fruit or veggies, but I am ravenous so I make sure to eat healthy fats too), and dinner by 7 pm.
It's amazing how much better I feel. Now I only get heartburn if I cheat and have a coffee or black tea. I'm still working on reducing stress, I need to learn how to “chill the heck out”. What do you do to relax?
Have you ever reverse dieted? Reverse dieting is where you eat more and do less in order to help heal or fix your metabolism. There's more to it than that, but the main goal is to heal and help my body do what it should be doing. I think that's what I'm going to try next! Depriving and punishing my poor body obviously isn't giving me the results I want!
I am determined to feel even better and shed this extra weight. It starts with a good breakfast, like these Banana Flour Waffles!

wha tis banana flour???
Hi Eva,
I just attached a link in the recipe to find banana flour. It is just that, flour made from banana. We really like the texture of this flour and it’s perfect for stuff like waffles!
Here’s that link again:

The most common brand that we’ve seen is Wedo. I just checked Amazon.ca and see that it’s currently not available, but it has been in the past. It’s definitely available on Amazon.com. Locally, we were able to find some banana flour at Bulk Barn.
Could I use almond flour instead of banana flour? Good luck with the new food regime. It makes a lot of sense.
OMG! I am so sorry it took me so long to respond. I’m losing it. Okay, almond flour, yes, you could use it, but the texture will be different, banana flour is starchier. Is that a real word? It is more like a fine powder, the almond flour is heavier. You could try it and let us know how it turns out?
This was my first attempt at making anything with green banana flour and I bought a package of it a year ago! Given there wasn’t an expiration date anywhere on the package it was a gamble on all fronts! So the only mashed fruit I had on hand was pureed pumpkin so… pumpkin waffles! I used a cup of pureed pumpkin, liquid coconut oil, 3 large eggs, Lets Do Organic green banana flour (aged 9 months in my pantry lol), two heaping tablespoons of Frontier brand pumpkin spice blend and HOLY YUM!!! I’ve made many, many, many gluten free and Paleo waffle variations from cassava flour, coconut, almond, oat flours and various combinations of and these were the fluffiest and best tasting of them all. I can’t speak to what it would have tasted ‘naked’ and pumpkin can mask any subtle irregular flavors but these are hands down my FAV!!! Would gladly share a photo but I don’t do instagram so let me know if I can post a photo another way. Also, I made these with a Cuisinart Belgian waffle maker.
LMAO, the expiration gamble. As long as it still smells ok, and not like the plastic that it’s in, I assume it’s good. Need to get more glass containers… Aged. Like a fine wine. Or more like a bag of potatoes that are all wrinkly and growing legs?
Heck yeah, pumpkin waffles! Do we have a pumpkin waffle recipe..? No, pancakes I think: https://theprimaldesire.com/paleo-pumpkin-pecan-pancakes/ and brownies.
I think we’d agree. The banana flour did have a great waffle texture.
Do you use any other social media? If not, email it to us and we could post it with a thanks to you.
You mention your waffle maker. I’m currently on the hunt for a non non-stick toxic coated waffle maker. I want a deep pocket Belgian style. It’s been a frustrating search thus far.
EXACTLY…. I think GreenPan needs to come up with a waffle maker! So I’m a complete social media moron…. how do I email you? Didn’t see a link for contact on the website?
LOL, Facebook works (post it on your feed and tag us for the WORLD to see) or info@theprimaldesire.com works
