This recipe is so simple and a great addition to your morning routine. It will help kick-start your day and your nutritional needs. Super simple smoothie mix!
We (The Primal Desire Team) are doing a Whole Life Challenge. It has been 2 weeks, and I have to say the game layout has been fun! I enjoy the team atmosphere of support!
So far into this challenge, I have lost 7 lbs and an inch off my waist, I am pretty excited to see some results. You may be asking why I am telling you this, should you join a Whole Life Challenge? Well… maybe? I'm telling you that this team support system and the multi-task aspect have been working for me so far 2 weeks in. This time.

I have been fighting with my body forever it seems, but the last 2 years specifically have been extra tough. I have done Paleo challenges, cardio challenges, get plenty of sleep, cut out coffee, black tea, sugar, wheat, dairy. I ate textbook AIP for 4 weeks. I tried giving my body a rest, doing no exercise other than light easy walking.
And every month the scale crept up, my energy diminished. I felt like I was an alien in my body.
What happened to my strong flexible and curvy body? The one that could pull a double shift and then go out dancing? The one that felt sexy and svelte. Where did it go?
Feeling like you aren't comfortable in your body is a real kick in the metaphorical shins. I don't think it matters how your alien body came about (childbirth, injury, hormone imbalance) it is hard on the self-esteem.
For me, being caught in the past brought about depression. My sparkle and light dimmed and I felt like a failure. The negative self-talk was screaming “I let myself go”.
Despite the fact I had been working hard, developing recipes, reading books and articles, getting tests, seeing my naturopath, consulting practitioners and doing everything possible to get this mess I was tangled in fixed. I wasn't very nice to myself, and not always the nicest to be around. The internal negative loop just dug me further into a hole.
I wrote about my life-changing decision a month ago, and it is still something I am trying to grieve and process. I am trying to be gentle with myself. Love my body, and accept it for what it is. Good and bad not being terms, but just different. The Whole Life Challenge has helped me spend some time on self-care and love!
It has been great to have not only Raj but other wonderful friends Kimber, Pam, Aimee, and Paul to reflect with, cook with and support each other on a team. If Paul hosts another team I highly recommend you join us on the next round.
While on The Whole Life Challenge I was looking for a good high protein, sugar-free smoothie mix, and after doing some research this super simple smoothie mix was born. With just 3 powerhouse ingredients. Let me break it down for you:
Collagen: This might be the best part of a cow, collagen powder is a close relative of gelatine, being produced a little differently. Hydrolyzed collagen powder doesn't thicken or clump your smoothie like gelatine, but carries many of the same benefits. It is proven to help appearance and elasticity of skin, helpful for healthy bones and joints, and is easily digested (hurray Amino acids). I have seen claims it may help with balancing and improving hormones and metabolism.
Hemp Seeds: These beauties are high in fiber and GLA (AKA Omega-6). They have been credited for helping: digestion, skin, joints, hair, nails, PMS symptoms, hormone balancing, weight loss, cancer and heart health. They are small but mighty!
Powdered Coconut Milk: not only adds a creamy texture to your smoothie but it carries plenty of added health benefits!
- Coconut milk powder is a rich source of manganese. Helping to maintain blood sugar levels. It also has magnesium that helps alleviate muscle cramping and soreness, It also contains Copper and vitamin C help to maintain the flexibility and elasticity of the skin and blood vessels. Vitamin C helps with healthy immune function as well!
- Coconut Milk Powder is not rich in calcium, but it is rich in phosphorus. Phosphorus is an essential nutrient that the body needs for strengthening bones. It also contains some iron and selenium. Selenium is a powerful antioxidant, helping to reduce inflammation.(And good for my Hashimoto's)
- Coconut milk powder contains fiber helping you feel full for longer! It also has potassium to help lower blood pressure, and zinc to help regulate hormones!

Holley!!! Love this! What kind of collagen are you using?!? I’ve been thinking about starting on collagen.
Hi Devi! Okay, I have used a couple different brands. The non-GMO grass fed powder at Bulk Barn (which is handy as you can buy as little or as much as you would like, and we have one close by). Or this beauty has had amazing reviews and can be ordered via Amazon
Love hearing your story and seeing your victories Holley! Your story will relate to so many people! I never thought to try powdered coconut milk – major DUH moment for me! Sheesh! So smart! I am terrible at making smoothies because of all the steps but this would really make it so much faster to make! Thank you!
Thank you Renee, it has been frustrating for sure! Don’t feel bad about the powdered coconut milk, it was a long time before it clicked in for me! So nice to have a jar sitting on the counter now, instead of opening coconut milk.
Powdered coconut milk? Never heard of such goodness, will have to procure me some soon!
I love it, also great to add a little into coconut milk yogurt!
I have powdered coconut milk but really had no idea what to do with it, so now I know. Thanks for the tip – and I’m glad to hear you are doing so well on your challenge! It’s never easy, is it? But that’s what makes when we figure it all out that much sweeter.
Awesome! Yeah, It is frustrating to fight your own body, when the smallest change can make the biggest difference!
This is so awesome! I have all my smoothie boosters by my blender, but I really should just make a mix to make it easier!
I have such a small kitchen, there is only room for a couple of things on the countertops 🙂
Thanks so much for sharing your story! Self love is the most difficult and most important thing. Also, love this smoothie mix idea!
Thanks Jean! Here is to Self-love and smoothies
Ah! This is pure genius. Such an awesome roundup to build a smoothie with. Perfect every time without all the creative work that goes into making a good base.
Thanks Irena, perfect to dump some in when you are in a rush!
Yum! Love simple smoothies that’s also nutritious!
Good luck with your journey. So many of us struggle with acceptance of our bodies, I have been one of them. Last night i started watching a documentary that i would totally recommend, it’s called Embrace.
You are not the first to suggest Embrace, I need to watch it. Thank you, Salma!
I love smoothie especially in the summer ! Definitely need to try this super simple and delicious recipe !
So many great fresh fruits and greens to add to smoothies in the summer! 🙂
Such awesome ingredients to make a smoothie extra healthy!
Thanks!
I’ve been having some digestion issues lately, and have upped my smoothies – I can get some good things in there, and it just feels like a refreshing drink rather than a huge plateful! Much easier on the tum. Love this smoothie, will pin it to make! Thanks 🙂
That is rough, hopefully, you can get your digestion sorted soon!
Ok now I have got to try powdered coconut milk. What a great idea!
I love adding it to smoothies and coconut yogurt!
Love this mix! I’m traveling next month and have 16 hour flights… I am going to find powdered coconut milk. I didnt even know it was a thing. What a lifesaver!
Good plan! (There’s a link above to buy some)
Thanks so much for sharing about your personal journey. This smoothie mix sounds awesome! I love collagen, so I’m was super excited to see it included in the recipe.
I love this! I recently got coconut milk powder and have been loving it. Great superfood combo.
This looks so refreshing – if I was going to do a smoothie this would be right up my street!
Yay whole life challenge! Go team!
Where did you get the powdered coconut milk from Holley?
Bulk barn!! But you can order it from Amazon!
Oh ok! Thanks!
This totally reminds me of a protein powder I’ve been putting in my smoothies these days: Equip Foods’ Prime Protein. The four ingredients in the vanilla version are beef isolate, vanilla, coconut milk powder and stevia. You should give it a go!
That sounds like a good combo as well, but I was going for maximum hormone repair, balancing and blood sugar stability! :-0
