“Maitre d'Hotel Butter”, “Beurre Maitre d'Hotel”, or “Hotel Butter” is a type of flavored butter. Back in the day, the maitre ‘d would make this butter at the table. This is a classic recipe that is super simple, but will really elevate your meal. Seriously fantastic on steak, as well as grilled vegetables.
I just read Juli’s (PaleOMG) post from earlier this week. She had felt the need to explain herself and her lifestyle to people bad-mouthing her online. It’s shocking to me that people would attack her. She’s obviously a positive person who loves to laugh and dance while living a physical and healthy lifestyle. It sounds like she’s got her head on straight and has learned valuable life lessons, most importantly to be happy with one’s self. It's pretty obvious I look up to Juli. I think she’d be cool to know and laugh with.
I realized a few years ago how important this lesson is. I also saw how “easy” it is not to make changes to become happy. There are always hurdles, but it’s what we do with them that matters in the end. There’s a TED Talk that I watched a little over a year ago that has really affected my outlook. I highly recommend watching this one. It’s about a young woman, Amy Purdy, who lost both her legs below the knee and was able to overcome the mental and emotional barrier. The key was her change of mindset; Being able to see the opportunities that are presented and not be blinded by the limitations. Very inspirational. Oh, if you’re a Dancing With The Stars fan (blech, don’t get me started), she’s on this season. Her talk really made me think about all those stories out there about people who have overcome tremendous adversities (physical, political, emotional, etc.) to do great things.
Happiness. It’s what we all want, but what are we willing to do for it?
Cook it up and eat it, of course!
I'm sure you'll see more flavored butters coming from me in the future, but today this traditional one will surprise you. Go. Make a batch of Maitre d'Hotel Butter now. Throw some in the freezer so that you can grab is as needed!
