I promise haven't lost my mind – here's my experience with fasting for 3 days!
The Food Blogger Taking a Break From Eating…
You read that right. I'm doing my second 3-day fast this year. I'm not eating for about 85 hours – that's 3 days and 4 nights plus a little bit.
You may have seen that since the beginning of the year I have been ending my showers with cold water, did a polar swim in the snow, done a keto challenge for over a month, and have been intermittent fasting for months.
I've been interested in extended fasts for a while now and since listening to the audiobook, In The Fasting Lane I've started playing with multiple-day fasts.
My initial goal after listening to the audiobook was to do a 10-day fast by summer.
Well, it's summer now and I haven't done that – with good reason: the reading that I've done indicates that you actually get a bump in immune function during the first 3 days, but after that it may have the opposite effect. And in this COVID world we're living in, now is not the time to screw with that.
So 3-day fasting it is.
WHY?! Why I'm Not Eating For 3 Days
There are a number of health benefits of fasting (intermittent and extended). Some include hormonal improvements (human growth hormone, insulin, etc.), autophagy (cell maintenance), and a metabolic boost.
I as a food-lover was also curious to challenge my relationship with food. Challenge the power dynamic.
My Experience With Fasting For 3 Days
Check out the video for my experience:
So what did I consume? Water. Salt. 2 cups of bone broth. Electrolytes. That's it!
What is your experience with fasting? Do you intermittent fast? Have you done any extended fasts?
My Big Mistake. Oops…
I woke up in the middle of the night to a dog barking and realized “drinking bone broth is had actually been breaking my fast!” **CRAP!!!!! So I was essentially just doing major calorie deficit keto intermittent fasting.
Do you know what this means? I have to try this again!
Ughhhhhhhh!
Ok, give me a few more months and I'll give this another go.
See: this is how you learn. From mistakes.
I realized that I hadn't even questioned it. But why? Because I'd heard the term “bone broth fast” many times before. I friend sent me this article to help calm me down: Does Bone Broth Break a Fast?
But that's a total misnomer, isn't it? It's really just a “bone broth CLEANSE“, isn't it?
Make sure you're subscribed so that you find out what happens when I actually try fasting for 3 days!
**”CRAP” was not the word that I used.
