BBQ Season is upon us! I couldn't be more excited! I love cooking with fire, and I'm not one of those guys who just grills the meat and takes all the credit for the meal when some wonderful lady did all the shopping, marinating, prepping and cleaning (I saw some cartoon one time about that, haha).
To be honest, I'm an all-season BBQer, but for some reason I forgot that my buddy had one in his deck all winter. Strawberry Jalapeno BBQ Sauce is my first paleo BBQ sauce this season, and it was perfect with the BBQ pork tenderloin.
Have you ever watched Rob Rainford's cooking show, License to Grill? I haven't caught any recent episodes, but I used to love it. Total food pornography, they do these slow motion close-ups with this bump-and-grind like music – super sexy shots. And his passion just radiates and is so catching. I bought one of his books a few years ago, “More Grilled to Perfection: Recipes from Licensed to Grill”. It's not a paleo cookbook, but a lot of easily convertible recipes and great grilling tips.
This is the first of many BBQ meals coming your way this summer! Not the first time we've combined strawberries and spice on The Primal Desire (Chipotle Strawberry Chicken Wings, Strawberry Jalapeno Iced Tea, and Chipotle Strawberry Kale Chips), Strawberry Jalapeno BBQ Pork Tenderloin is money!

Strawberry Jalapeño BBQ Pork Tenderloin
- Yield: 2 tenderloins 1x
Ingredients
Strawberry Jalapeño BBQ Sauce
- 2 cups fresh strawberries (cut small)
- 1 large jalapeño pepper (finely diced, and if you can't handle the heat then remove the seeds first. I find jalapeños to be kind of a wild card when it comes to spiciness level. If you like it hot you might want to add an additional pepper)
- 1/4 yellow onion (finely diced)
- 1 Tbsp ghee
- 1 tsp onion salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/8 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ginger powder
- 1/4 tsp mustard powder
- 1 Tbsp tomato paste
- 2 Tbsp honey (or maple syrup)
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- Juice of 1–2 limes
BBQ Pork Tenderloin
- 2 pork tenderloins
Brine
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 cup orange juice
- 3 cups cold water
Instructions
Strawberry Jalapeño BBQ Sauce
- Melt ghee in a saucepan over medium heat and sauté onions until translucent.
- Add remaining sauce ingredients and reduce heat to low once strawberries are soft and lose their shape.
- Let this mixture continue to cook on low, stirring occasionally.
BBQ Pork Tenderloin
- Mix brine ingredients in a large zip lock bag, add pork, and refrigerate for an hour.
- Remove pork from refrigerator.
- Rinse off tenderloins and pat dry.
- Heat BBQ on high for 10 minutes.
- Get your timer out cause here come the instructions: cook the first side of the pork with the cover closed over high heat for 7 minutes, then turn the tenderloins over and cook the same way for 6 minutes. Turn off the BBQ and let the piggies cook in the remaining heat for 5 more minutes.
- Remove the meat from the heat (yay for rhyming!) and let rest for 5-10 minutes (you can check the meat for doneness if you're not confident here; it should be at least 145°F), and then slice these beauties up with a nice sharp knife. They should have perfect grill marks and none of that charcoal action.
- Spoon on some Strawberry Jalapeño BBQ Sauce and enjoy!
Notes
You may have noticed the primal bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers in some of the photos. They too were brushed with the Strawberry Jalapeño BBQ Sauce!
This paleo BBQ sauce is great on most meats too. Just wait til you get it on your next burger!
